TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — An average of 42 people in Florida are killed in teen driver related crashes between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

AAA calls that time period the '100 Deadly Days of Teen Driving.'

With schools out for the summer and COVID-19 restrictions being lifted, more teens will be behind the wheel in the coming weeks.

AAA is encouraging parents to be a good example for their teen drivers.

"Just lead by example," said Mark Jenkins, a spokesperson for AAA Florida. "Your teens are always watching. They're learning from you. So that includes your driving habits. So be a safe driver but then sit down and talk to them about the importance of being a safe driver themselves. Wearing their seatbelt, minimizing distractions while behind the wheel, and the dangers of driving while impaired."

AAA says it's a good idea to establish a parent-teen driving agreement that sets family rules for your teen driver.
